Event: Hoop Dancer
Event
July 18, 2024
Returning to Grasslands’ Summer Event Series is world-renowned hoop dancer Terrance Littletent! Bring a lawn chair and join us at The Landing on June 18th at 6:00pm as we immerse ourselves in Indigenous culture and dance, including an incredible hoop dancing performance, jingle dancers, and a drum circle.
Terrance Littletent is a member of the Kawacatoose First Nation. Terrance began hoop dancing at a young age, a gift passed down from his late uncle Kirby Littletent. This gift of hoop dancing transformed Terrance’s view of his culture, community, and himself. Terrance is now committed to his culture and shaping the future, passing along teachings through hoop dancing.
The hoop represents the circle of life and the interconnectedness of all things. Everything is central to the hoop; it is the past, the present, the future. It is our ancestors, our children. It is our community, our home. It is a form of storytelling through dance where handcrafted hoops are used to create intricate movements and patterns. Hoop dancing honours and connects with the spirits and natural world, further expressing the balance, harmony, and interconnectedness of all things.
